Making the Most of a Compact Lot
Centerville packs a lot of homes into a small area, and as concrete contractors we find that shapes almost every job here. The city covers about four square miles and had 8,228 residents in 2020, a density of about 2,086 people per square mile. At that density, lots are rarely large, so the space beside a driveway or behind the house has to be planned with care.
Where Centerville sits
Centerville was incorporated on March 25, 1958. Its name comes from its spot between Macon, the Bibb County seat, and Perry, the Houston County seat. Warner Robins borders it on the east and south, and Byron borders it on the west. U.S. Route 41 runs along the west side of town, 17 miles north to Macon. Watson Boulevard forms the southern edge and runs 3 miles west to I-75.
The city is still growing. Population went from 7,148 in 2010 to 8,228 in 2020, and the 2025 estimate is 9,505. The 2020 census counted 3,530 housing units.
Working in tight spaces
On a smaller lot, there is less room for error. Things we watch closely:
- Property lines: a driveway widening has to stay on your side of the line and leave room for drainage
- Drainage toward neighbors: a new patio or drive cannot send runoff onto the house next door
- Equipment access: narrow side yards may mean a concrete pump or wheelbarrows instead of driving the truck close
- Existing utilities: sprinkler lines, cable and gas lines often run right where people want new concrete, so we have lines marked first
Popular Centerville projects
Driveway widening. Many homes here were built with a driveway just big enough for two cars. Adding a strip on one side gives room for a third vehicle or makes it easier to get in and out without stepping on the grass.
Front walks. A walk from the driveway to the front door that has cracked, sunk or tilted is a trip hazard. Replacing it is usually a short job.
Small stamped patios. On a compact backyard, a stamped and colored patio can make a small space feel finished. A pattern also hides minor surface marks better than plain concrete.
Utility slabs. Pads for HVAC units, generators and trash cans keep equipment level and off the dirt.
Repairing older concrete
Homes built in Centerville's earlier decades may have driveways and walks that have been around a long time. Common problems include cracks that have widened, edges crumbling where cars run off the side, and sections that have settled near downspouts. We repair what is solid and replace what is not. When we replace, we fix the base underneath so the new section does not sink the same way.
Planning around Watson Boulevard traffic
Watson Boulevard (State Route 247 Connector) forms the south edge of Centerville and runs 3 miles west to I-75 at Exit 146, and U.S. 41 runs up the west side, so many homes sit on streets that feed one or the other. For driveway replacements, that matters in two ways. First, the concrete truck needs a safe place to park and pour without blocking traffic for long. Second, a driveway that you use every day has to be closed while it cures. We will talk with you about where to park during that week, and if needed we can pour the driveway in two halves so one side stays open.

Centerville Questions
Can you widen my driveway on a small Centerville lot?
Usually, yes. We check your property line, drainage and any utilities first, then add a strip that ties into the existing drive.
The side yard is narrow. Can the truck still reach?
If the truck cannot get close, we can use a pump or move concrete by wheelbarrow. We plan this during the site visit.
Will a new patio cause drainage problems for my neighbor?
Not if it is graded correctly. We slope the slab so water flows toward your yard's existing drainage path, not onto the next lot.
