Concrete in Bonaire, Old and New
Bonaire is an unincorporated community in Houston County, about 6 miles south of the center of Warner Robins along U.S. Route 129. As concrete contractors, we see a wide range of work here: driveways damaged by fallen trees, older walks that have sunk, and new patios and drives at homes built more recently.
A railroad town
Bonaire formed around the Georgia Southern and Florida railway when it came through in 1888, and its post office was registered that December. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated it as a town in 1912, and its charter was dissolved in 1995. The name is said to come from French for "good air." Because the community grew in stages, house ages vary a lot from one road to the next.
After the 2022 tornado
On April 5, 2022, a high-end EF3 tornado heavily damaged Bonaire. Storms like that hurt concrete in ways people do not always notice at first. Falling trees crack driveways and walks. Heavy equipment used for cleanup can break edges and crush slabs that were not built for that weight. Roots of uprooted trees can leave voids under nearby concrete that only show up as settling months later.
If your property went through storm damage, we can check your concrete and tell you what can be repaired and what should be replaced. Signs to look for:
- New cracks that run across a whole panel
- Sections that rock or sound hollow when you step on them
- Edges that broke off where trucks drove
- A slab that has started to tilt toward or away from the house
Highway changes
Georgia State Route 96 links Bonaire to Interstate 75, and since 2021 SR 96 has bypassed the community. For homes along U.S. 129 itself, we plan around traffic and set up safe work zones for driveway aprons that meet the highway.
Flat ground and drainage
Bonaire sits at about 348 feet on the coastal plain, where the ground is mostly flat. Drainage has to be designed in. We grade the base and set the forms so the finished slab carries water off toward the yard or a drain path, and we keep the top of the slab a little below siding and door thresholds so water cannot get into the house.
Trees and concrete
Mature trees are part of what makes older Bonaire properties pleasant, but roots and concrete do not get along. When we replace a section lifted by a root, we look at whether the tree is healthy and how close it is. Sometimes the right move is to route a new walkway a little farther from the trunk, or to use a thicker slab with more reinforcement where roots are likely to spread. We will not cut major roots on a tree you want to keep without talking it through, because that can harm or kill the tree.
Checking a slab after a storm
A storm-damaged slab is not always obvious. When we look at concrete after a tree fall or a cleanup, we tap along each panel for a hollow sound that points to a void underneath, check whether joints have opened or shifted, and look at the edges where loaders and trucks drove. We also ask where the uprooted tree stood, because the hole its root ball left can keep settling for months. A panel that only has a hairline crack and still sits flat can usually be sealed. A panel that rocks, sounds hollow or has dropped needs to come out so the base under it can be filled and compacted before the new section goes in.

Bonaire Questions
My driveway cracked when a tree fell on it. Can it be patched?
Sometimes. If the panels are still level and the cracks are narrow, repair can work. If the slab broke apart or sank, replacing the damaged sections is the lasting fix.
Can cleanup equipment damage concrete?
Yes. Heavy trucks and loaders can crack edges and break slabs not built for that load. We can check and replace damaged sections.
Do you work on driveways that meet U.S. 129?
Yes. We plan traffic safety for the work zone and check what approvals apply to a connection at the highway.
